Os protestos em Los Angeles, que começaram no último fim de semana devido a detenções surpresas de imigrantes, e escalaram rapidamente com veículos sendo incendiados, confrontos policiais e bloqueios no centro de Los Angeles.
Em resposta, o presidente Trump ordenou o envio de 2 mil agentes da Guarda Nacional, depois enviou mais 2 mil soldados e avaliou o envio de fuzileiros navais.
Enquanto isso, o governador da Califórnia, Gavin Newsom, recebeu a intervenção de Washington de forma negativa, chamando o envio da Guarda Nacional de uma tentativa de limitar os poderes dos estados e anunciou sua intenção de levar a controvérsia ao tribunal.
